The Duchess of Cambridge tends to favor British designers, catapulting brands like L.K. Bennett, Issa and Reiss to retail superstardom. But she surprised everyone during her Royal Tour to North America with Prince William when she stepped out in a vivid green dress by a high-profile American designer: Diane von Furstenberg.
She surprised everyone, that is, except perhaps von Furstenberg herself. The Belgium-born designer seems to have a good read on Kate Middleton's style, even correctly predicting the royal's choice for her wedding day dress. "I think she should go for Alexander McQueen," DVF told the Telegraph before the big day. Well done, Diane!
But for her trip to the US, Kate picked Diane, wearing the designer's "Maja Dress" in green when visiting the British Consul-General's residence in Los Angeles.
She took the dress out for a second spin for her cousin-in-law's wedding, attending the pre-wedding party for Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall on the Royal Britannia in the verdant sheath.
So when Diane von Furstenberg presented her Spring 2012 collection today, we kept a close eye on any royal-ready options. The collection had plenty of Kate-approved colors, but perhaps more adventurous shapes and prints.
